GSAC Players of the Week April 21, 2008   SOFTBALL PLAYER PAIGE POWELL ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Senior ~ 5-7 ~ Center Fielder ~ Chula Vista, California Senior Paige Powell enjoyed multiple-hit games in each of No. 2-ranked Point Loma Nazarene's 4 wins last week. Overall, she batted 9-for-12 (.750) with 4 runs scored, a double, a triple, 8 RBI, and 3 steals. In a doubleheader sweep of No. 21-ranked Cal State San Marcos, Powell went 4-for-5 (.800) with a double, a triple, a run scored, 5 RBI, and a stolen base. At Concordia, she was 5-for-7 (.714) with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI, and 2 steals.  SOFTBALL PITCHER JENNIFER OLVERA ~ Vanguard University Senior ~ 5-7 ~ RHP ~ Gilroy, California Senior Jennifer Olvera earned her ninth and tenth shutouts of the season with 2 GSAC wins last week. Olvera allowed 5 hits in 12 innings while striking out 16 batters and walking 2. She improves to 17-3 overall, and the 8 strikeouts against Hope International gives her a conference-leading 200 for the season. BASEBALL PLAYER DAVID WEST ~ Biola University Junior ~ 6-1 ~ Right Fielder ~ Coronado, California Junior David West finished the week going 8-for-13 (.615) at the plate with 4 runs scored, 2 triples, a home run, 7 RBI, and a stolen base as Biola won all 4 of its conference games last week. He was 3-for-3 in the first game against Westmont with a home run and a stolen base as Biola won 15-6. West went 2-for-4 in the first game of Biola's doubleheader at Concordia with a triple and 4 RBI. He followed that up with a 2-for-3 performance in the nightcap. BASEBALL PITCHER KENNY HOUSER ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Freshman ~ 6-2 ~ RHP ~ Litchfield Park, Arizona Freshman Kenny Houser tossed a no-hitter in Point Loma Nazarene's 12-0 win over Vanguard last week. He gave up 3 walks while striking out 9 batters in 9 innings of work.  This was the seventh no-hitter in Point Loma baseball history.
