Janis Peterson (SR/San Francisco, CA) of Concordia (Calif.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. This honor, which encompasses performances from Jan. 19 – 25, is the fourth of the 2014-15 season. Peterson was selected out of a pool of conference player of the week selections.

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The No. 12 Vanguard Lions defeated No. 17 Westmont College 53-50. The tightly contested game will go a far way in determining final GSAC playoff seeding. Maya Kennedy (SO/Huntington Beach, CA) led the Lions with 16 points, three boards and three assists. Samantha Doucette (JR/Irvine, CA) chimes in with 15 points in 40 minutes of game action.

Fullerton, CA -- After trailing nearly the entire first half and by as many as 12 points, No. 3 Hope International used a 53-point second-half scoring outburst to beat No. 10 Arizona Christian 84-74 on Tuesday night.  Both teams were lead by a player scoring 19 points, junior Garrett Neilan for the Royals and Senior Brandon Newman for the Firestorm.

Fullerton, CA -- Last second heroics were needed from Senior Krystyn Jacobs for Hope International to beat Arizona Christian 76-74 on Tuesday.  Up by as many as 13 points, HIU almost let one slip away as ACU put up a tremendous fight in the second half which included hitting 57% of their shots from the field.  In the end, four Royals in double figures proved to be just enough as Sophomore Emily Terwilliger had a great game with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds plus four blocks and three assists.

Janis Peterson
Concordia University
Janis Peterson led the No. 9 Eagles as they defeated No. 11 Vanguard 88-83 in overtime in the NAIA Game of the Week. The senior guard scored 32 points as the Eagles won in The Pit for the first time since 2001. She was 12-of-20 (.600) from the field and 7-for-10 at the line. She also added seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. Currently, Peterson leads the GSAC in scoring and is second in the nation at 22.5 points per game. This is her second GSAC Player of the Week honor this season. Peterson was also named NAIA Div. I Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Zach Allmon
Vanguard University
Zach Allmon recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds as Vanguard upset No. 12 Concordia, 69-57. The sophomore forward shot 6-for-8 (.750) from the field. Allmon had an emphatic dunk over Ty Armstrong to seal the win for Vanguard. Allmon is currently in the top-10 in the GSAC in both offensive, defensive and total rebounding.
