SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –   Two undefeated Golden State Athletic Conference teams, the Lions and the Warriors, met at Westmont's Lynn Abbott Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon for an all-important league match-up. After a grueling and tight competition, fourth-ranked Vanguard emerged victorious with a 5-4 win.

No. 5 Westmont led after doubles as the Warriors garnered points in the No. 1 and No. 2 pairings. Daymon Johnson (SO/Bakersfield, CA) and Filip Burnac (SO/Luzern, Switzerland), however, stepped up to the plate to post an 8-4 victory in the third match to keep the contest close heading into singles.

Johnson and Burnac's point in doubles ended up being more crucial than anyone could anticipate, as the Lions claimed 4-of-6 singles wins to come from behind in the match and remain unbeaten in GSAC play.

The second-ranked individual in the NAIA, Vanguard's No. 1 Stefan Kilchhofer (SO/Basel, Switzerland) took down the country's eighth-ranked player, Rodrigo Schaeffer 6-4, 6-1, while No. 4 Johnson and No. 5 Burnac came through again in the match to record wins over their respective counterparts in singles action.

Johnson bested Joshua Barnard 7-5, 6-1, and Burnac trounced Travis Kimsey 6-1, 6-1.

Michael Rjazanov (SO/Berlin, Germany) tallied another significant victory in the sixth spot, 6-2, 6-4, over WC's Nicholas Szyndlar.

Vanguard improves to 5-0 GSAC and 9-4 overall, while Westmont drops to 4-1 GSAC and 8-4 on the year.
