San Diego, CA - Sophomore Janna Langrell won the women's 800 meter race at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet hosted by Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday.  Junior Alicia Wright was less than a second behind Langrell to finish the 800 meter race in second.

Langrell and Wright toed the line for the two laps around the track with Cal State San Marcos runners making up about half their field.  Langrell out kicked Wright to the finish line posting a time of 2:19.80.  Wright crossed the line with a time of 2:20.65.  CSUSM followed with five of the next six runners.  Langrell's time stood up for the win through the final two sections.

The other four members of the HIU Women's Track team raced the 800 meter race as well.  Sophomore Rachel Langrell came in 16 with a time of 2:32.  Junior Francisca Chamu edge a pack of five runners including teammate Freshman Moriah Tucker with a time of 2:39.  Freshman Ronda Ackley was the final HIU runner to cross the line.

On the men's side, Freshmen Tommy Garcia and Jose Rivera ran the 800 meter.  Garcia finished with a time of 2:10 and Rivera came in at 2:32.

Freshman Brian Tressler was the only runner to run something besides the 800 meter as he ran in the 5000 meter run.  Tressler concluded the Royals participation on the day with a time of 16:13 and ended up 20 out of 29 runners.

Head Coach Jaime Winslow commented, "It was a great day for us- we had an especially strong showing in the 800m with the top two finishers in that event.  Everyone either ran a PR or was close to a PR.  I am extremely proud with how the team competed and am looking forward to getting back on the track this Friday at the Pasadena games."

As mentioned by Coach Winslow, the Royals will compete at the Pasadena Games hosted by Pasadena City College on Friday.  The action is set to begin at 2:00 pm at PCC Robinson Stadium.
