SANTEE, Calif. – The San Diego Christian softball team tallied 20 hits and 15 runs en route to a 2-game sweep of Arizona Christian College on Tuesday to improve to 10-2 on the season.

The Hawks held on for an 8-7 victory in Game 1 and dominated Game 2 which was called in the fifth inning as SDC went on to win 8-0. 

Josie Tucker won her fifth decision improving to 5-1 on the season. Tucker threw six innings allowing eight hits, five runs, four earned, and struck out four.

 

The Hawks quickly grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first with three runs.

 

Hannah Romanski hit the first ever homerun in SDC Softball history with a 2-run bomb over the left field fence in the third inning for the 5-0 Hawk lead. Morgan McGee single home Tiffany Fox in the fourth to increase the SDC to 6-0.

 

Arizona Christian then scored five unanswered runs to get the game within one. The Firestorm scored four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth in their comeback bid.

 

The Hawks tallied a much-needed insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Autumne Gallegos stole home.

 

Game 2 was less stressful for Coach Cheryl Scahefer as Kendra Kuper received the win after throwing five innings allowing three hits and striking out three for her fifth win of the season as she improved to 5-1 alongside fellow starter Tucker.

 

Romanski hit her second homer of the day and of the season in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. A five-run fourth inning increased SDC's lead to 7-0. Kuper singled home Morgan Wheeler and Savanna Baggett in the inning.

 

The Hawks scored their eighth run on a wild pitch and called the game due to the 8-run rule after five innings.

 

Romanski finished the day going 4-for-6 with the two homers and four RBI.

 

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow as the host No. 21 Simpson University for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
