SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - On Tuesday, the No. 10 Lions traveled to No. 20 The Master's College to compete In the highly anticipated Golden State Athletic Conference showdown between the league's unbeaten teams. In the end, Vanguard was able to validate its higher ranking, as it prevailed 1-0 in the overtime period to hand The Master's its first GSAC defeat and second loss of the season.

Regulation was a passionate back and forth clash between two resolute squads. The Master's held a slight advantage in shots in the first period (5-3), but the Vanguard backline was able to protect its net to hold a scoreless tie at the break.

In the second 45 minutes, the Pride picked up the pace, firing off six shots compared to TMC's four. Unfortunately for VU, none found their target as The Mustang's goalkeeper Ilyssa Espiritu registered a pair of saves to hold the Lions scoreless.

Less than two minutes into overtime, the senior duo of midfielder Charlotte Wisniewski (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and defender Lauren Evans (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) teamed up to break the scoreless tie. Evans sent a booming free kick to the right of the box where Wisniewski connected with her head to give her team the sudden death victory.

The goal was Wisniewski's first of 2012, while Evans tallied her second assist of the year for Vanguard.

The Lions just edged the Mustangs in shots (10-9) while TMC garnered one more save than VU (5-4) in the match.

Sophomore Lauren Terry (Corona, Calif.) recorded the win in goal for Vanguard. She improves to 6-2 and boasts four shutouts on the year. Espiritu took the tough loss for TMC.

With the win over the Mustangs, the Lions' streak extends to five games. Each victory in the stretch has been a shutout. The determined Pride have not allowed a goal since September 22nd and have outscored opponents 29-5 during the 2012 season.

Vanguard boosts its overall record to 9-2 and remains undefeated at 5-0 in conference play.  The Master's sits at 9-2-2 and 4-1 in the GSAC.

Both teams resume play on October 13th. The Mustangs will host San Diego Christian at 12:00 p.m. and Vanguard will face Biola in La Mirada, Calif. at 4:30 p.m.
