PHOENIX, Ariz. --- For the 18th time this season, Arizona Christian University's Talib Uqdah led all scorers for the Firestorm, as he finished with 16 points in the 81-78 victory over San Diego Christian College.
With the win, the Firestorm improve to 20-6 on the season and 6-5 in GSAC play. The Hawks fall to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in conference.
It seemed to be a back and forth basketball game in the first opening minutes of the half, as both teams traded points up until the 14:46 mark. The Firestorm then went on an 11-2 run to take a 9-point margin over the Hawks from 14:46 to 12:31.
ACU shot a 60.6 percent clip from the field in the first half and it showed as the Firestorm took its largest lead at the 3:31 mark, 46-26. The Hawks finished the half on the charity stripe cutting the Firestorm lead to 16, 48-32.
The Firestorm' bench scored 14 points and ACU outscored the Hawks 16-6 in the paint.
After the break, ACU continued to hold onto its lead, but the Hawks persistence kept them in the game. The Hawks chipped away at the Firestorm lead and even cut the deficit to five after back to back threes by SDCC's Derek Dickerson, 75-70.
Both teams finished the game on the free throw line as the Firestorm held on to the victory.
ACU finished the game shooting 51.8 percent from the field, while the Hawks shot a 44.6 percent clip.
Brandon Newman finished the game with 14 points, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Jordan Block recorded 12 points and seven rebounds, while Mateus Oliveira had 10.
Dickerson finished the game leading all scorers with 27 points.
Arizona Christian will host Westmont College on Feb. 22 when ACU will have homecoming with tip off at 4 p.m. (Arizona Time)
