EL CAJON, Calif. – The Hawks hit two homers in the bottom of the first but had to overcome a Bethesda University comeback to earn their 14th win of the season and their fourth win in a row beating the Flames 8-6 Tuesday.
Bethesda didn't go down quietly as the answered with five runs, two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead after three and a half innings.
The Hawks did answer in the bottom of the fifth scoring three runs on just one hit as the Flames committed three errors as SDC retook the lead, this time for good.
SDC scored one more run in the seventh as Michael Stowers hit a sac fly to center that scored Erickson for the 8-5 lead.
The Flames added one in the ninth but it was too little, too late.
Jimmy Shaw went 5.2 innings for his first win of the season. He allowed nine hits and five runs, all earned, and struck out four. Calvin Chambers pitched 3.1 innings in relief for his first save of the season. Chambers allowed just a run on five hits and two strikeouts.
Cade Gotta led the team with three hits. He also stole two more bases adding to his nation-leading total of 16. Erickson was 2-of-4 with 3 RBI and his second homer of the season. Lusardi's homer in the first was his fifth. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Hawks will return to GSAC competition this Friday and Saturday against Vanguard. The Lions are 4-5 in conference and 9-6 overall. Game time for Friday's single is 2 p.m. followed by an 11 a.m. start time on Saturday to start off the double header.
