COSTA MESA, Calif. – Vanguard (RV) outscored Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) (1-7) 17-1 in Saturday's nonconference softball doubleheader sweep to pick up its ninth and tenth wins of the 2014 season. Junior Gabrielle Jackson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) could not be stopped at the plate as she amassed a team-leading five knocks on the day.

The Lions wasted no time in the first game, run-ruling the Eagles 8-0 after five frames of action. Jackson was perfect in the opener, going 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Four Vanguard juniors, Taylor Hallahan (Santee, Calif.), Breanne Gomez (Santa Ana, Calif.), Shelby Kuryllo (Corona, Calif.) and Jackson, hit doubles in game.

Gomez and her classmate Haley Croce (San Diego, Calif.) compiled a pair of 2-for-2 feats in the win.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Doyle (Oceanside, Calif.) (3-0) threw four scoreless frames and notched the victory for The Pride. She struck out five in the start.

The Blue and Gold's offensive prowess continued in the nightcap as they out-hit the Eagles 13-6.

Hallahan, freshman Taylor Wilson (Modesto, Calif.), Gomez and Jackson all posted multi-hit performances for Vanguard in the second competition of the day.

Croce and Jackson combined to produce five of the Lions' nine RBIs. Jackson tabbed three in the first off of a double, while Croce managed one in the first via a sacrifice fly and one in the sixth by way of a double.

Alexandra Olvera (Gilroy, Calif.) tossed all six innings for Vanguard in the nightcap to register the second win of her sophomore campaign.

Vanguard returns to action on the road Monday versus University of Redlands. The first game of the DH is scheduled for 1:30pm.
