The Concordia Eagles got back on the winning track on Thursday, January 23, with an 81-73 road win over CSU San Marcos in San Marcos, CA.

Brittany Stafford and Ashley Engeln each had 18 points, a season-high for Engeln.  Ashley Ellis chipped in 17 points off the bench.  Stafford recorded her third double-double of the year with 10 rebounds to lead the team.  Jade Reed grabbed seven boards.  Concordia shot 40%, held the Cougars to 37%, and made four more threes.

A three from Ashley Engeln two minutes in gave Concordia the early 6-4 lead.  Brittany Stafford hit a jumper and Jade Reed finished a layup as Concordia led 12-7.  Concordia stayed in front, but San Marcos closed to 20-17 at the 11:33 mark.  A jumper from Stephanie Larson one minute later extended the lead back to five.  The Cougars fought back and briefly led 25-24, but a jumper from Nikki Kraus saw Concordia regain the lead.  A Cougar free throw at 3:57 tied the game at 30.  San Marcos pulled ahead 32-30, but a three-point play from Ashley Ellis put the Eagles back on top and they would not trail again.  Concordia finished the half on a 10-5 run to lead 43-37 at the half.

It was back and forth early in the second half, but three straight from Asia Auberry put Concordia up 11, 52-41, five minutes in.  A three point play by Carlisha Phillips, followed by a three from Carly Bishop, saw Concordia lead 60-43 at the 13:47 mark, their largest lead of the game.  San Marcos used the next four minutes to go on a 6-18 run to cut it to five.  It was down to three, 70-67, with four minutes left.  The Eagles held their lead and salted the game away at the free throw stripe to win 81-73.

The Eagles improved to 8-6, while San Marcos fell to 8-15.  Concordia will finish their three-game week on Saturday, January 25, at 5:30 pm against San Diego Christian inside Concordia Arena.  Watch the live stream at
