EL CAJON, Calif. – Rafael Rodriguez scored a game-high 31 points and Trevor English chipped in 23 points and 17 rebounds as the Hawks defeated Multnomah University 108-100 Monday night at the Ryan Athletic Center.

The 108 points is the second highest of the season as the Hawks scored 112 in a double OT win against West Coast Baptist on Dec. 14.


With the win, San Diego Christian improves to 4-5 on the season. The Lions fall to 7-12.


Multnomah pushed a run and gun pace right from the start. They made their opening shot as Davey Walker converted on the 3-pointer. The Lions attempted a whopping 54 3-pointers in the game. They finished hitting 20 of them good for 37 percent. Multnomah attempted 80 shots in the game. They were 36-of-80 (45 percent) from the field.


After Walker's opening trey, Derek Dickerson answered right back with a trey of his own. Both teams went back and fourth exchanging buckets. A total of eight lead changes were seen in the first half. The Lions led by as many as 10 points with 6:45 left in the first. Multnomah went into the locker room with a 56-50 lead.


Kristoff Thande scored a team-high 24 points off the bench for the Lions.


In the second, English converted a tip in to give the Hawks the lead for good in the second half. He also converted on a 3-point play to increase the SDC lead to eight points with 12 minutes left. The Hawks would stretch that lead as high as 11 points with 35 seconds left.


SDC dominated the boards leading 56-39 in the rebounding category. Twenty-one of the 56 were offensive rebounds. The Hawks shot 44.8 percent from the field including 11-of-27 from beyond the arc. They were 19-of-21 (90.5 percent) from the charity stripe.


San Diego Christian is off for a week as they start conference play on Jan. 14 against Vanguard in the Ryan Athletic Center. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
