LA MIRADA, Calif. – Top-ranked Vanguard picked up its 10th victory of the season at the Biola Holiday Classic on Friday evening, defeating Viterbo (Wisc.) handily, 87-50.

Senior Nicole Ballestero (Orange, Calif.) put up a game-best 31 points in the affair, while also registering 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. She knocked down 50 percent (6-12) of her 3-point attempts in the contest and shot 11-for-21 from the floor.

Sophomore Samantha Doucette (Irvine, Calif.) finished the game with 16 points, nearly three points shy of her impressive 18.9ppg average.

Facilitating Ballestero and Doucette's offensive proficiencies on the night was senior point guard Taylor Belmont (Oregon City, Ore.) who distributed a competition-high 11 assists in the win.  Belmont also tallied 8 points and 2 steals for the Lions.

Back-up point guard, sophomore Lauren Martin (Torrance, Calif.), shelled out an additional six assists to her Vanguard teammates, in just 19 minutes on the court. The 5-2 Martin also managed to grab four off of the glass for the Blue and Gold on the night.

Vanguard, known for its nation-leading assist-to-turnover ratio, did not disappoint, committing just 6 turnovers and handing out 25 assists through 40 minutes of action.

Juniors Melissa Norman (Elk Grove, Calif.) and Ashleigh Anderson (Oregon City, Ore.) paced the Pride's rebounding effort with 7 and 6 boards, respectively. Additionally, Anderson recorded 6 points, 2 steals and 3 assists.

The Lions' next Biola Holiday Classic game, versus Bethesda, is scheduled for Saturday at 5:30 pm.
