The Concordia Eagles snuck in one more win in 2013 on Tuesday night, December 31, as they defeated Victoria from British Columbia 72-60 inside CU Arena.

Stephen Grosey had a career-high 16 points and five steals, to go with six rebounds.  Donnell Phifer chipped in 16 as well, his fifth time in double figures this season.  DeLaun Frazier was the final Eagle in double figures with 11.  Kiefer Douse scored eight and Lucas Simpson was three-of-five from the field for seven points and four rebounds.  The Eagles forced 24 turnovers for 14 steals, only giving it away 12 times, leading to 14 more shot attempts.  Concordia shot 48%, while Victoria shot 46%.  Concordia had 31 points off turnovers, 38 points in the paint, 15 second-chance points, and 21 bench points.

The game was close early as Concordia grabbed a 4-3 lead two minutes in.  Victoria regained the lead, but Concordia scored seven straight with four from Phifer and a three-point play from Lucas Simpson.  A layup by Victoria's Terrell Evans tied the game at 11 and they followed with a three.  A layup from Kiefer Douse tied the game at 16 at the 10:59 mark and Douse followed with a three.  Victoria tied the game again at 21 at 7:25.  Two layups from Phifer and one from DeLaun Frazier put Concordia back up six, 31-25.  They scored another six-straight with a four-point play from Frazier and a layup from Simpson.  A three from Grosey with seven seconds left gave Concordia the 40-27 halftime edge.

The Vikes opened the second half with a three and by 16:17 it was down to 44-38 Concordia.  Layups from Frazier and Nolan Abernathy pushed it back to 11, 52-41.  It was a 9-3 run from there capped by a three from Justin Davis to make it 61-44 Concordia.  The lead grew as much as 21 at 8:02 on another three from Davis.  The Eagles cruised comfortably to the finish, 72-60.

Concordia gets another shot at No. 8 CSU San Marcos on Friday night, January 10, at 7:00 pm inside Concordia Arena.  The Eagles fell to the Cougars on the road, 88-82, on November 26.  The 2013 Concordia Softball National Championship team will receive their rings at halftime.  Follow the live stream http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/cui.portal#.
