EL CAJON, Calif. – Irene Lopez scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds with five steals and Chardonnay Shula added 20 points as the San Diego Christian Lady Hawks defeated visiting Dakota State University 77-62 Saturday night.

The Lady Hawks shot 48.3 percent from the field and 7-of-18 from beyond the arc. San Diego Christian forced 22 turnovers and held the Lady Trojans to 23.5 percent from deep. Briana Martinez added 15 points and Gabrielle Concepcion finished with nine for the Lady Hawks.   

With the win, San Diego Christian improves to 7-2 while Dakota State falls to 6-9.

The Lady Hawks came out firing from the get-go running to a quick 11-2 lead four minutes in the game. The Lady Trojans answered with a 12-2 run to take a slim 14-13 lead with 11:51 remaining in the first.  Jayda Swenson made a layup for the Lady Trojans as Dakota State led 20-18.

For the next eight minutes, the Lady Hawks took control of the half and eventually the game as they went on a 19-2 run to head into halftime leading 37-22.

Five minutes into the second, San Diego Christian made their lead as high as 19 points.  The Lady Trojans would chip the deficit to 11 points twice but wouldn't get any closer than that. Erin Rabenberg led the Lady Trojans with 15 points. Kylie Westover was next with 14. 

For the game, Dakota State dominated the glass collecting 46 rebounds, 18 of them offensive. San Diego Christian brought down 30 rebounds, 10 offensive.

The Lady Hawks will return to action in the Westmont Tournament on Dec. 30-31. San Diego Christian will face off against Dordt College in the first game Dec. 30. and University of California Merced in the second game on Dec. 31. Both games start at 1 p.m.
