EL CAJON, Calif. -- The Hawks shot lights out from beyond the 3-point line as they defeated Pacific Union College 84-64 Tuesday night.

San Diego Christian went 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) from beyond the arc. Every Hawk player that attempted a 3-pointer was successful. Derek Dickerson led with four 3-pointers. He finished 4-of-6 from deep and 7-of-11 from the field en route to a team-high 18 points. Josh Richardson also chipped in 18 points. Trevor English added 13 for the Hawks and Rafael Rodriguez came off the bench to tally 10 points.

 

With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-3 on the season. The Pioneers fall to 0-12. 

 

The Hawks started off the game with a 3-pointer as Dickerson hit the shot just 28 seconds into the game. San Diego Christian's first four made buckets were all treys as the stormed out to a 12-7 lead. The Hawks never trailed in the game. The biggest lead for San Diego Christian in the first half was 16. Austin Hawk hit a 3-point shot with 2:09 left in the half. San Diego Christian went into the break leading the Pioneers 35-26. 

 

In the second half, it was all Hawks. With 10:22 remaining in the game, San Diego Christian kept the lead above double figures. English made a layup with 2:26 left to give San Diego Christian its biggest lead of the game of 23. The Hawks forced 17 Pioneer turnovers in the game including eight steals. San Diego Christian led Pacific Union with bench points, 20-3. 

 

The game was highlighted when Kevin Foster, a man suffering from ALS, delivered the game ball to the center referee. Foster, a good friend of head coach Tim Cook, was the honorary captain in the game. 

 

"ALS is a horrible disease with no known cure," Coach Cook said. "Everyday with research dollars and help to promote awareness about this disease is a huge plus. It's part of my passion that connects to caring about the world and the small things we can do. I'm glad we can do a small part in the greater San Diego area."

 

The Hawks will travel to No. 8 ranked Cal State San Marcos on Friday. San Diego Christian lost the first meeting between the two team this season on Dec. 4, 87-77.
