PHOENIX, Ariz. ---No. 6 Arizona Christian University continued to stay in the win column Monday night, as the Firestorm took down Spring Arbor University in day one of the ACU Classic, 87-77.

With the win, Arizona Christian improves to 9-0 overall and adds its seventh double-digit victory of the season. Spring Arbor falls to 5-8 and will face GSAC member Westmont College tomorrow Dec. 17 at 5:30p.m.

The Firestorm wasted no time in the first, as Talib Uqdah hit three 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the game to give the Firestorm a seven point edge at the 15:40 mark. Arizona Christian would dominate the boards with Mateus Oliveira, Mike Navar, Jackson Helms, and Dan Cornelius who combined for 15 rebounds to the Cougars 13 as a team.

Arizona Christian finished the half up by 14, 45-31.

Both teams traded points back and forth after intermission, but Spring Arbor's Greg Hamilton would hit a nice 15-foot jumper to cut the deficit to nine, 53-44. Arizona Christian would push its lead back to 14 after Mason Jones hit a huge trey to keep the Cougars at bay, but the Cougars would continue to claw their way back in the game after Rob Hogans hit a couple of jump shots.  Arizona Christian would keep the Cougars at arm's length the rest of the second half en route to their 87-77 victory.

The Firestorm had three players in double figures with Uqdah leading the way with 23 points. Oliveira recorded a season-high 21 and Jordan Block finished with 14 points and four steals.

Spring Arbor's Rob Hogans finished with 32 points and 12 rebounds shooting 12-for-26 from the field.

Arizona Christian enjoyed the paint tonight recording 32 points, while the Cougars finished with 18 points.

The Firestorm finished the night shooting 48.3 percent from the field, while holding the Cougars to 40 percent. Arizona Christian had 12 assists on 29 field goals, while Spring Arbor had nine assists on 27 field goals.

Arizona Christian will take on The College of Wooster (OH) at 7:30p.m. in the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium in day 2 (Dec. 17) of the Arizona Christian Classic. The College of Wooster finished day 1 defeating GSAC opponent Westmont College 53-47 and are currently undefeated on the season (8-0).
