Women's Soccer - Tue, Oct. 22, 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lauren Terry of Vanguard (Calif.) has been selected as the NAIA Women's Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Terry was selected based on her performances from Oct. 14 – 20 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners.  This is the second straight week that a GSAC athlete earned this award, with Morgan Aukshunas of Biola receiving this honor last week.

Terry, a goalkeeper from Corona, Calif., recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season,  giving her five on the year and 19 for her career. The senior opened the week with six saves in 110 minutes to blank then-No. 15 The Master's (Calif.), 1-0, on Oct. 16. Terry added another nine saves, upping her total to 15 for the week, in 90 minutes against then-No. 23 Biola (Calif.). She has started all 13 matches in goal this season for the Lions and boasts a 0.76 goal against average in 1,066:38 minutes of action. The honor is the second time in Terry's career – the first coming on Oct. 16, 2012 – that she has received the national defensive weekly award.

"This is one of our biggest rivalries," Terry said (of Biola). "It was such a thrill to play against them on our new field. I think our team played their hearts out from the very first second, all the way through to the last. I thank God that we were able to walk away injury free, and most of all, emerge as a stronger team. We've all been blessed with the ability to play this beautiful game and I'm so proud to be on a team with such a great group of hard-working girls and supportive coaches."

Terry was also selected as the Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for October 21st. She previously earned the league award on September 16th, 2013 after she shutout then-No. 8 Mobile on the road in another NAIA Women's Soccer Game of the Week, posting two saves in the Lions' 2-0 victory. The same week, Terry registered seven saves and zeroed then No. 17-William Carey.
