Men's Soccer - Sat, Oct. 12, 2013

The (RV) Concordia Eagles stayed hot on Saturday morning, October 12, as they defeated (RV) San Diego Christian 2-1 in a rematch of the 2012 GSAC Championship, also won by Concordia, at Eagles Field in Irvine, CA.

The teams played to a scoreless first half where each team only fired one shot.  The action picked up in the second stanza just 15 minutes in as Neil Anaya sent one ahead to Ray Estrada down the right side, who found Mario Soto for the first goal of the game on a cross.  It was Soto's fourth of the year.  The Hawks tied the match 10 minutes later when Eder Robles finished a free kick from Alex Saliba with a header straight on.

The game-winner came at the 80th minute as Rayane Bouarroudj sent a cross in from the right that slid right in front of the goal.  Soto missed on his attempt but Asher Axe was at the end of the box to finish it for his fourth of the season.  The Hawks were able to muster one shot after the goal, but Concordia's Jordan Brinkley was there to make the save.  Concordia controlled most of the final ten minutes as they protected their lead.

The Eagles took nine shots and five on goal, compared to seven and four for San Diego Christian.  Brinkley improved to 6-3 for the Eagles, making three saves.  San Diego Christian keeper Cameron Riley dropped to 6-2-2 and made three saves as well.

The Eagles improved to 7-3 and 4-0 in the GSAC, as well as 21-6-2 all-time against the Hawks, and won their sixth-straight match, including 16-straight at home dating back to last season.  San Diego Christian fell to 8-1-2 and 1-0-2 in conference.  Concordia remained on top of the GSAC with the unblemished mark.
