ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Junior Jennifer Martin (La Mirada, Calif.) netted two goals for the No. 2 Vanguard women's soccer team against No. 17 William Carey (Miss.) at the Orange Beach Sportsplex on Friday evening. The Lions defeated the Crusaders 3-2 in regulation to remain undefeated at 4-0.

Senior Sarah Warner (Mission Viejo, Calif.) managed the game winner in the 85th minute, courtesy of classmate Jordan Davidson (Tucson, Ariz.) and sophomore Ashley McCutcheon (Aliso Viejo, Calif.). The Lions' determined defense did the rest, holding William Carey scoreless for the remainder of the match.

The Blue and Gold outshot William Carey 21-15, though both squads recorded nine shots on goal. Vanguard's junior goalkeeper, Lauren Terry (Corona, Calif.), registered seven saves in the victory and moves to 4-0 in 2013.

Senior Kayla Arenas (Fullerton, Calif.), Vanguard's leading scorer, assisted Martin's second goal at 58:32.

Vanguard found the back of the net first on a successful penalty kick from Martin and then traded goals with the Crusaders until Warner sealed the win when she came up with the ball following a frantic scramble in the box.

The Lions square off against No. 8 University of Mobile in the NAIA Women's Soccer Match of the Week at 5:30pm PST on Saturday. Vanguard is undefeated in 19 consecutive games, dating back to September 25nd, 2012.
