Concordia University and its athletic department recently appointed Maurice "Mo" Roberson to the position of Associate Athletic Director.  Roberson comes from California Baptist University where he served as Assistant Director of Athletics/Facilities/Event Management/Sports Medicine/Transportation since 2008.

"Concordia being a Christian Institution and the strong athletic programs attracted me to this university," Roberson said.  "I have grown accustomed to that environment and when I was contacted about an opening here at CUI, it peaked my interest.  I kept getting excited about what the Lord is doing here and had great responses from the administration (Dr. Krueger, Dr. McDaniel, and Dave Bireline) and my family fell in love with the hospitality CUI showed towards them."

Roberson was involved with all facets of athletics at California Baptist, serving as Facilities Manager from 2005-2008 and Gym Manager from 2001-2005.

"The hiring of Mo Roberson is yet another signal to the Southern California community that Concordia Athletics is determined to create excellence," Concordia Executive Vice President Gary McDaniel said.  "Mr. Roberson is a respected administrator in the GSAC, serving faithfully for many years.  Mo's spiritual and programmatic leadership will serve Concordia University well as the university moves forward.  It is great having Mo as a part of our athletic family!"

He received his M.S. from California Baptist in sport management in 2007 and his B.A. in liberal studies from California Baptist in 2005.  He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Athletic Directors (NACDA), the College Athletic Business Managers Association (CABMA), the College Event and Facilities Manager Association (CEFMA), the Minorities Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA), and the Sport Turf Managers Association (STMA).

"I am extremely happy for Mo to be joining our excellent athletic staff," Concordia Athletic Director Dave Bireline said.  "I look forward to working with him and I know he will help take us to new heights.  The coaches and staff are all thrilled and I can't wait to see Concordia Athletics continue to thrive with Mo in place."

Roberson has volunteered on the Executive Board of the San Bernardino Pregnancy Resource Center and on the Executive Board of the Riverside Sports Hall of Fame, including being the current president.  He won the 2004 California Baptist University Employee of the Year award and was awarded a scholarship at the 2008 NACDA Conference.

"I am excited about the opportunity to bring change (in a positive way), and I believe Dave Bireline and Gary McDaniel have done a great job in positioning the athletic program for great success and I look forward to the opportunity to work with quality coaches and staff," Roberson said.  "I am a person who tries to lead by example, so I will show up every day and work hard in making CUI athletics the best it can be and stay true to the mission of the university."

Roberson and his wife Rosy have two children, Sierra (10), and Matthew (9), and currently reside in Riverside, CA.  He enjoys reading and watching college sports.
