Four GSAC baseball players were selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft, which wrapped up Saturday evening.

  • Cole Swanson - Concordia
    All-GSAC pitcher Cole Swanson made 15 starts, pitched three complete games, and recorded two shutouts in the 2013 season.  The junior struck out 86 batters in 104.2 innings of work.  Swanson was the GSAC Pitcher of the Week for two consecutive weeks, including one that led to the NAIA National Pitcher of the Week on April 1. 
  • Cody Harris - The Master's
    GSAC Gold Glove third baseman Cody Harris was drafted as a pitcher.  The junior third baseman/pitcher has been the Mustangs' starting third baseman since his freshman year, making 55 starts at the hot corner this season, hitting .283 (49-173) and driving in 16 runs.  Harris made 18 appearances on the mound, all in relief, in 2013, striking out 27 batters in 20.2 innings of work and holding opposing hitters to a .188 average.  
  • Orrin Sears - Arizona Christian
    An All-GSAC selection, junior Orrin Sears batted .332 (62-187) with 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 27 runs scored and 36 RBI and also stole eight bases in nine attempts. He totaled 15 multiple-hit games with 5 three-hit games and had a five-RBI game and a four-RBI game. Sears saw action at catcher, first base and in left field for the Firestorm in 2013, helping the team to a 31-27 record and a berth in the GSAC Tournament.
  • Joel Thys - Arizona Christian
    The GSAC Gold Glove winner at catcher, senior Joel Thys batted .293 (54-184) with nine doubles, a school-record six triples, two home runs and 34 RBI, and recorded 13 multiple-hit games with 3 three-hit games and 2 four-hit games. Defensively, Thys committed just three errors as a catcher in over 325 chances and threw out 18 of the 56 runners who attempted to steal against him.
