Fullerton, CA- Hope International University is pleased to announce the addition of Men's and Women's Track (& Field) for the 2013-14 academic year.  Current Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach Jaime Winslow will head up both track teams.

To compliment the cross country running in the Fall, the Royals will have the opportunity to participate in the distance running events of 800m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, 10,000m, and marathon during the outdoor track season in the Spring.  HIU may also participate in the 4x800 relay.  Other disciplines like sprints and field events will be opened up to interested athletes on an individual basis.

Head Coach Jaime Winslow stated, "I am very excited about the addition of track. This will greatly enhance the competitive opportunities for our current and prospective athletes. Competing in track is the next step in taking our distance program to a new level."

Athletic Director John Turek added, "The addition of Track and Field to our athletic program broadens our appeal to a greater number of prospective student athletes and strengthens our total program. We look forward to yet another opportunity for competition."

Like all but one of the other HIU sports, Hope International University Track teams will compete in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).  With the addition of track, HIU now sponsors 13 Varsity athletic teams.

Hope International last fielded a track team for the men in 1971-73 as well as back in 1955.  As for the women, the team that will race in 2014 appears to be the first ever women's track team for Hope International.

The Hope International University Track schedule will be released at a future date.
