The inaugural GSAC Players of the Week for 2012-13 are Brooke Marino of Concordia for Volleyball, Matthew Howard of Hope International for men's soccer offensive player, and Jessica Long of The Master's for women's soccer offensive player.
Volleyball Player of the Week
5-11, Senior, Outside Hitter, Mission Viejo, CA
Brooke Marino, the reigning NAIA Player of the Year, pushed NAIA No. 2-ranked Concordia to 12-0 on the season. In four tournament games, she recorded 43 kills with a .374 hitting percentage, 30 digs, seven aces, seven assists and six assist blocks. The senior outside hitter fueled the Eagles' win over No. 3-ranked Lee (TN) with 13 kills and seven digs. Marion is sixth in the GSAC with a .315 hitting percentage and first in kills with 139 and aces with 28. Marino is third in the country in aces and eighth in kills.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
5-9, Senior, Midfielder, Temecula, CA
Matthew Howard accounted for all three goals of the week by Hope International, including two game winners with both matches played on the road. The senior midfielder scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win at Marymount and both goals in the 2-0 win against NCAA Div. III Chapman. Howard has scored seven goals (three game winners) in the first four matches. The Royals remain undefeated this year at 4-0.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
5-2, Sophomore, Forward, Wailuku, HI
Forward Jessica Long tallied the game-winner at the 77:01 mark to propel The Master's to a 1-0 upset of No. 13-ranked Cal State San Marcos. It was the sophomore's first goal of the season.
