PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Arizona Christian University senior lefthander Mike Lachapelle (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro H.S./Univ. of New Mexico/Pima C.C.) has been named NAIA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 7-13, 2013.  Lachapelle is the first Arizona Christian player in any sport to win NAIA National Player of the Week recognition.

Lachapelle, who was named Golden State Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for April 7-13, 2013 on Monday, threw the third shutout and fourth nine-inning complete game in ACU's three-season baseball history, defeating The Master's, 7-0, in game one of ACU's April 13 GSAC doubleheader.  Lachapelle struck out a season-high 12 batters, the second-best single-game total in ACU history, walked none and allowed eight hits.  He retired the last six Mustangs he faced, three via strikeouts, in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the win and the shutout.  Lachapelle improved his record to 5-5 and lowered his team-best ERA to a team-best 3.13 and also leads ACU with 53 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 74.2 innings pitched this season.
Arizona Christian (23-17, 16-17 GSAC) won all three of its GSAC games last weekend over The Master's College, which is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA.  ACU defeated TMC, 15-4, on April 12, and swept a doubleheader from the Mustangs, 7-0 and 13-3, in Phoenix on Senior Recognition Day, April 13.  Coached by Don Mitchell, ACU is 1.5 games behind third place San Diego Christian College, in the GSAC standings with one more conference three-game series left this season – at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, April 19-20.
