KANSAS CITY - On Tuesday afternoon, the NAIA announced the winners of the national awards for the sixth week of play and Vanguard's Goalkeeper Amanda Valentine was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week behind a pair of stellar performances for the NAIA No. 7-ranked Lions, which are currently in first place in the GSAC.
The junior from Livermore, Calif., notched two road wins in the net against top-10 opponents. After defeating No. 9 The Master's 3-1, Valentine blanked No. 6 Westmont on the road with two saves. She had three total saves in 180 minutes on the week, and has led the defense to five shutouts in the last six matches.
She has won Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for four straight weeks culminating in the national recognition. New to the Blue and Gold this year, Valentine has four career wins in only six weeks of opportunities.
