Fullerton, CA- Hope International cruised by Caltech on Saturday evening 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-16). Senior Markisha Richie delivered a perfect 12-12 hitting performance while Junior Summer Mitchell pounded out 18 kills with a .552 hitting percentage.

The first meeting between the Royals (2-3) and the Beavers (0-1) since 1998 featured just two ties for the entire match with both coming in the first set. With ties at 2-2 and then 3-3, Mitchell buried a kill to give the Royals the lead for the rest of the night.

Richie put down 6 kills on 6 attempts in the opening set. Mitchell topped with 9 kills.

Set two saw HIIU commit just one error while putting away 14 kills for an impressive .684 hitting set.

Starting with the end of the second set and carrying through a large portion of the third and final set all Royals dressed for the match found court time.

Sophomore Rebecca Hicks squared up 4 kills while Junior Nikki Bradbury produced 4 kills off the bench.

Sophomore Julianna Hicks spread around 33 assists.

Mitchell controlled a match high 9 digs with Freshman Kaylee Hagey recording 8 digs.

On Tuesday, the Royals will face a tougher challenge when they host former GSAC foe Azusa Pacific for a 6:00 pm match in the Darling Pavilion.
