SANTEE, Calif. – For the first time since starting conference play, the Vanguard Lions (6-6, 4-0) headed on the road for their match. Tonight, the Blue and Gold squared off against San Diego Christian. This edition was no different as the Pride took home a 3-1 victory (20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-15). The come from behind victory saw tight action in the first three sets before Vanguard fought back to .500 for their season record.
The two teams had solid offensive outings to begin the game with Vanguard notching 14 kills for a .214 hitting percentage while the Hawks hit 13 kills for a .250 clip. The difference in the first set came down to two more attacking errors for the Blue and Gold. The same script was written for the second frame, but the sides of the court adjusted. Each team tallied 13 kills on the match, but the key cog was seven errors by San Diego Christian. In the critical third set, VUposted a match high 16 kills while the defense began to start limiting the chances of the Hawks. In sets three and four, SDC had the same stat line: 10 kills, six errors, and .111 hitting on 36 attempts. After winning the third set, the Lions put together their best set of offense as their attacks found success on .333 percent while limiting themselves to only three errors in the lopsided 10 point victory.
Hailey Gordon (JR/San Diego, CA) was a monster in the game recording 11 kills on 15 attempts with only one error for an otherworldly .667 hitting to go along with the only solo block of the day and three block assists. Aubryn Coale (SO/Huntington Beach, CA) had a team high 12 kills on 27 attempts. Both Taylor Jackson (SR/Las Vegas, NV) and Tobi Sanders (SO/Fresno, CA) were just on the outside of double digits looking in with nine kills. Jene Lee (SR/San Dimas, CA) had a solid day in the middle of the court ending with seven kills and only one error on her way to .500 hitting. In the backline, Rebecca Lowden (JR/Glendora, CA) led the game with 23 digs while Kristin Trabert and Sam Rice (SO/Temecula, CA) each contributed 10 digs. Trabert had a match high 26 assists while Kylie Garrett (FR/Ladera Ranch, CA) came in second for both teams with 18 assists.
