Mesa, AZ - On Tuesday night, in a match played at Mesa Community College, Junior Breanna Scott pounded out 20 kills while hitting .409 against the Redhawks as Arizona Christian beat Benedictine-Mesa 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20).

The Redhawks (5-5) grabbed the first two points and led 3-1 before Scott got warmed up.  Over the course of the next six points, Scott hammered out two kills and a service ace.  Benedictine-Mesa moved ahead at 8-7.  A block by Seniors Hailey Carpenter and Alli Lemnitzer gave the Firestorm (9-3) back the lead at 10-9.  Junior Jackie Stein delivered a kill and ACU lead 12-11.  They remained in front for good including comfortably at 24-18.  Benedictine-Mesa actually made the score 24-23 before Scott locked up the set win with a kill.

After a 1-1 tie to begin the second set, Senior Toria Siemens found the hardwood with a kill for the 2-1 ACU edge.  The Firestorm lead from there though once again the Redhawks made life interesting before Stein concluded the set with a kill.

Set three went back and forth to the tune of six lead changes and ACU holding a 23-22 advantage.  But BenMesa converted the final three points of the set to force a fourth set.

The final set started with a block by Siemens and Sophomore Amanda Bakonyi.  Two points later, Bakonyi earned a kill.  The teams exchanged ties and lead changes and the Firestorm found themselves facing a 19-17 deficit.  But ACU went on a 7-0 run highlighted by kills from Stein, Lemnitzer, Scott, and Freshman Kaitlyn Streltzoff.  Fittingly, Scott used a kill to bring the match to an end two points later.

As a team, the Firestorm only had 13 errors all night including none in the fourth set.

Behind Scott's 20 kill and 18 dig effort, Stein added 13 kills and 11 digs.  Lemnitzer recorded 10 kills on .346 hitting with seven blocks.  Carpenter earned 47 assists and 14 digs.  Sophomore Delaney Harris was solid with 22 digs.

On Friday, ACU will return to GSAC action as they travel to The Master's in Santa Clarita, CA.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
