Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian University Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Marcos Gil as their new head coach of the ACU softball team.  Coach Gil has spent the last three years turning around the North Pointe Preparatory School softball program along with coaching travel ball for over 20 years.

Assistant Athletic Director Pete Dryer commented, "Marcos is a great fit for ACU athletics.  He is passionate about serving the Lord and he knows the game of softball.  We are excited about the future of ACU softball under Coach Gil's leadership!"

On being handed the reins of ACU softball, Coach Gil stated, "I want to thank God for this wonderful opportunity and honor to be a part of these young Christian women's lives.  Apart from being a wonderful university, ACU has built up the softball program into a winning program in a short period of time - I look forward to continuing that tradition."

Under the guidance of Coach Gil the last three seasons at North Pointe Prep, the Falcons produced a record of 45-28, won a section title, and advanced as far as the third round of the state playoffs.  For perspective, North Pointe managed a total of six combined wins the three years before Coach Gil.

Gil made a name for himself working as a pitching coach and recruiting coach for local travel ball teams that competed throughout the country from California to Florida and New Jersey to Oregon with many stops in between- though primarily in Arizona.

Coaches from around the softball world offered rave reviews about the hiring of Coach Gil:

"I am glad to see Marcos get an opportunity to coach at the next level.  He has done a good job developing young talent in Arizona.  I look forward to watching Marcos grow the softball program at Arizona Christian University."

"Marcos is a fantastic fit for Arizona Christian Softball.  He will be able to recruit fantastic athletes, particularly in the Phoenix area and Arizona as a whole.  He has a great understanding of the game and the way it should be played and will develop the young women he coaches on and off the field.  Most of all Marcos is a great spiritual fit for ACU and am excited to see the impact he will make on the program for years to come.  This really is a great fit."
