Micah Groom won in doubles and singles on Wednesday

The No. 10-ranked Concordia Eagles, the third seed, defeated the sixth-seeded Biola Eagles on Wednesday morning, April 10, in the 2013 GSAC Tournament First Round, 5-0, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, CA.

The 2013 Golden State Athletic Conference Tennis Championships is taking place at the famed Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif, April 10-12.  This is a GSAC Tournament of firsts – the first-ever in such an elite venue, and the first conference tournament since 1999.

All six conference schools with tennis programs will be represented in the single-elimination tournament.

On Wednesday, Concordia swept the doubles matches, with Micah Groom and Patrick Szeremeta taking down Bradon Chang and Rodric Pence (8-4) to improve to 9-3 as a duo in the two spot.  Bruno Kliskinic and Christian Wickenhauser defeated David Mossman and Isaiah Pekary in the #1 spot, 8-3, to improve to a perfect 7-0 at the top spot.  Marc Reddmann and Farren Casad joined forces in the #3 hole to beat Chris Evans and Greg Cobian 8-3 and went to 6-6 on the year.

Micah Groom made quick work of Chris Evans in the #4 singles spot (6-0, 6-0) to go to 14-7 on the year.  Patrick Szeremeta sealed the match (6-2, 6-2) against Rodric Pence to improve to 6-12 in #5 singles.

Concordia (11-10) moves on to face the second-seeded Westmont Warriors tomorrow, April 11, at 9 am in Indian Wells, CA in the semifinals.
