Numerous Golden State Athletic Conference men's and women's basketball players have received postseason awards from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, including the prestigious NAIA All-America honor.
A total of five GSAC women's basketball athletes and four GSAC men's basketball athletes were honored as first, second, and third team recipients to the 2016-17 NAIA All-America Team. Another five women and six men basketball players from the GSAC received honorable mention, as chosen by the NAIA Men's and Women's Basketball All-American Selection Committees.
In addition, Claire Lamunu of Vanguard and Kayla Kato of Westmont were named to the 2017 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball All-Championship First Team for their play in the national championship in Billings, Montana. The Biola men's basketball team was given the Dr. James Naismith-Emil S. Liston Sportsmanship Award and their coach Dr. Dave Holmquist received the Charles A. Krigel Award, given to the coach of the team that best exhibits respect, civility, integrity and fair play, the qualities that define sportsmanship.
WOMEN - All-Americans
GSAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Claire Lamunu, led the way all season for the Lions. Vanguard's tournament run ended in the Fab Four. The senior forward earns first team All-America honors. Lamunu finished the season first in offensive rebounds per game (5.4), second in scoring (21.6) and total rebounds (430), third in total rebounds per game (12.6), and fourth in total steals (97) at the national level. Aysia Shellmire from Westmont also received first team honors. The senior forward shot 55.3% on the year which was good for sixth in the nation. Shellmire averaged 14.6 ppg and 7.2 rpg.
MEN - All-Americans
Liam Hunt, GSAC Player of the Year, was named a 1st team All-American. The junior center average 13 ppg, 9.4 rpg, and 2.5 apg for the Royals.
