Tucson, AZ- The Arizona Christian Men's Track team ran, jumped, and threw in the Willie Williams Classic hosted by the University of Arizona on Friday and Saturday. With Junior Kendrick Murphy leading the way, the ACU men established three new school records.
The 4x100 relay team of Freshman Joe Avance III, Murphy, Junior Derick Hughes, and Senior Jordan Morris highlighted the ACU showing as they set a new program mark at 42.46.
Murphy recorded a 20'6.25" run/jump combo in the long jump and a new school record 45'11" in the triple jump.
Avance appeared in three other events in addition to the 4x100. He ran ACU day bests of 11.13 in the 100 meter race and 22.66 in the 200 meter race.
Hughes (11.41) and Morris (13.59) also ran the 100 meter race. Freshman Alec Hathcock made his track debut with a run of 11.77 at the 100 meter distance.
Solo running efforts saw Senior Justin Barnes go 24.07 in the 200, Freshman RJ Williams finish 400 meters in 53.59, and Sophomore Tanner Hilton set a school record with a time of 2:03.67 in the 800 meter race.
Sophomore Matt Castillo hurdled his way to 16.23 in the 100 meter distance and 1:03.32 in the 400 meter race.
Freshman Alias Sturges produced an ACU day best 21'1.25" in the long jump. Sturges went 42'2" in his triple jump journey.
Rounding out the field participants was Junior Karl Kleppe (18'9"- long jump), Junior Adrian Releford (38'1.25"- shot put), and Sophomore Jordan Leary (141'2"- javelin).
The Firestorm will next be in action on Thursday at the Distance at Dark event hosted by Scottsdale Community College.
