Phoenix, AZ- Coming into action against each other, Arizona Christian and Westmont were tied for second in the GSAC standings.  The ACU women came to play as they defeated the WC women 7-2 and claimed sole possession of second.  Junior Mikayla Morgan prevailed in a third set to secure the team win.

Opening play on the singles courts gave a team the opportunity to win the match before even starting doubles- the Firestorm took advantage as they won five of six matches.

Freshmen Jayci Kelley and Melanie Dreux won in convincing fashion with scores of 6-1, 6-2 on court six and 6-2, 6-0 on court four respectively.

The next two matches completed saw Sophomore Tia Okano win 6-0 and 6-3 on court two and Senior Lauryn Sullins earn the 6-2 and 6-1 victory on court five to give ACU a 4-0 cushion.

The final two singles matches to be decided both needed a third set.

On court one, Morgan won the first set 6-3.  But Westmont's Isabel Lee took the second set with a 6-3 win of her own.  In the third and final set, Morgan rebounded to win 6-2 to earn the decisive fifth team point.

Court three was all about the 6-2 scores.  Junior Autria Compton took the opening set with 6-2 result before Cade Pierson turned the tables and won the final two sets 6-2 to prevent the clean ACU singles sweep.

With the match decided, the action on the doubles courts was just to determine the final score.  Dreux and Kelley teamed up for the 8-3 win on court three.  Morgan and Okano followed with an 8-2 result.  In the final match playing on the day, Westmont's Bruna Chaves and Zarina Huber held off Compton and Sullins 8-5 on court two.

Head Coach Chris Tolson said, "The ladies came out strong in singles and just kept the pressure on Westmont all day. Our team has improved so much from the beginning of this year and the past few weeks we have really started to play some great tennis."

Come Wednesday, the Firestorm (11-5, 3-2 GSAC) will host Idaho State at the Phoenix Tennis Center at 12:00 pm.  The Warriors (2-10, 2-3 GSAC) will play Cal Lutheran at home  on Monday at 2:00 pm.
