COSTA MESA, Calif. – Vanguard softball improved to .500 (3-3) in Golden State Athletic Conference play with a pair of wins over Arizona Christian on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Taylor Hallahan (Santee, Calif.) led the Lions' attack in the opener with her 3-for-3 performance at the plate while senior Kimberly Skoglund (Lake Forrest, Calif.) accomplished a similar feat in the nightcap with the addition of three RBI's.

Freshman Rachel Stalford (San Diego, Calif.) tabbed her fourth win of the season in the early contest, throwing three innings, allowing three hits and striking out three for Vanguard. She sits at 4-6 on the year.

The Pride doubled the Firestorm's production at the plate (10-5) in the 10-0, five-inning, opening victory. Eight different players in Vanguard's lineup tallied knocks and recorded RBIs in the contest.

Sophomore Haley Croce (San Diego, Calif.) garnered a pair of RBIs in the Lions' monster third inning, which saw eight runs score on six Blue and Gold hits and three Arizona Christian errors.

In the nightcap, Vanguard took a 3-0 lead in the second but allowed Arizona Christian to creep back into the game in the top of the sixth with two runs.

The comeback served as a wakeup call for Vanguard, and the team responded quickly in the bottom of the inning with three runs of its own to stretch the margin to four.

The Pride closed the game strong to secure its 20th victory of the 2013 season. Freshman Taylor Doyle (Oceanside, Calif.) (6-3) tossed 5.1 innings and was credited with the win.
