SAN MARCOS, Calif.—The San Diego Christian College baseball team completed the weekend sweep by winning both games of Saturday's doubleheader over Westmont College. The Hawks took game one 10-6 and held off a Warrior rally to win game two 6-5.

With the win, SDCC is now 20-10 and moves over the .500 mark in conference play at 11-10. WC falls to 16-15 overall and 7-13 in the GSAC.

In game one, the Warriors scored in the top of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. The Hawks responded with single runs in the first, third, and fifth innings.

SDCC extended their lead with a pair of runs in the seventh, with an RBI single from Chad Erickson and an RBI double from Garrison McLagan.

The Hawks blew the game open in the bottom of the eighth with five runs to build a 10-1 lead. The Warriors made things interesting, scoring five runs before David Johnson struck out the final two WC batters to end the game.

SDCC starter Nick Greene (5-1) kept Westmont hitters off balance all afternoon. The junior right tossed 8.0 innings, scattering 7 hits while allowing one run and striking out 10.

Russell Harmening (4-4) took the loss for the Warriors in game one.

SDCC pounded out 13 hits in game one, with Erickson, McLagan, Jeff Lusardi, Alex Mann, Taylor Eichhorst, and Christian Johnson collecting two hits each.  Erickson and McLagan each had 3 RBIs.

The Hawks took a quick lead in game two, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Mann led the inning off with a triple and Lusardi scored Mann on a sacrifice fly. Erickson then tripled and later scored on an error to push SDCC up 2-0.

After WC scored a run in the second, SDCC added two more runs on a single by Eichhorst in the third and another run in the fourth, when Lusardi singled home Mann, giving SDCC a 5-1 lead heading into the fifth.

The Warriors continued to fight, cutting into the Hawk lead with an RBI single from David Gabel and an RBI groundout from Kevin Hammer, making it a 5-3 game.

SDCC added some insurance in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Eichhorst doubled and Dylan Jones entered to pinch run. Peter Hoyt then doubled home Jones to push the lead to 6-3.

WC responded with two more runs in the sixth. Consecutive singles by Hunter Christenson and Graylin Derke, followed by Brent Fukushima getting hit by a Tyler Sanborn pitch to load the bases, led to a pitching change. Steven Bunnell replaced Sanborn and William Barring singled up the middle, plating Christensen, leading to another pitching change. SDCC's Brock Heerdt promptly induced a double play groundball and struck out the final hitter of the inning to limit the damage and keeping the Hawks in front.

After SDCC was unable to score in the bottom of the sixth, Heerdt retired the Warriors in order in the seventh to collect his third save of the season.

Sanborn (3-0) threw 5.0 innings, allowing 8 hits and 5 runs (4 earned), while striking out 4.

Offensively for the Hawks, Mann led the way going 3-4 with 3 runs scored while missing only a homerun for the cycle. Eichhorst was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs and Lusardi was 1-1 with 2 RBIs.

The Warriors outhit the SDCC, with Derke and Gabel collecting a pair of hits each.

The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 20 hosting Doane College (Neb.) at 12:00pm.
