KANSAS CITY, Mo - Tugce Canitez of Westmont (Calif.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Canitez, who is the final weekly honoree for the 2012-13 season, was selected based on her performances from Feb. 25 - March 3 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/unaffiliated group winners.

Canitez, a native of Izmir, Turkey, notched her Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) leading - seventh nationally - 18th double-double of the season with 27 points and 20 rebounds in Westmont's 62-47 win against San Diego Christian (Calif.) in the semifinals of the GSAC Tournament on March 1. The senior forward shot 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) from the field and 13-of-16 (81.3 percent) at the foul line. She also added four assists and one steal in the effort.

Canitez currently ranks fourth on Westmont's all-time scoring list with 1,253 career points in less than two seasons. She leads the NAIA in defensive rebounding per game (9.1), while ranking second in points per game (21.6) and third in rebounds per game (12.3). Canitez is the first single-season four-time NAIA National Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week award winner, dating back to the 2007-2008 season.
