El Cajon, Calif.—The San Diego Christian College women's basketball team got back to their winning ways on Wednesday night, toppling the Simpson University Red Hawks 65-52 behind 28 points from Brittany Daniel.

The win pushes San Diego Christian to 8-8 as the Lady Hawks close out the non-conference portion of their schedule. The Red Hawks fall to 4-11.


San Diego Christian started the game on a 17-4 run and never looked back. The Lady Hawks were able to build their lead to as large as 38-21 on a pair of free throws from Chardonnay Shula. The Lady Hawks cruised into halftime with a 40-24 advantage.


Simpson came out of the locker room and rolled out a 14-5 run to cut the Lady Hawks' lead to 45-38 with 12:16 remaining in the game.


San Diego Christian turned to Daniel, a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American a season ago, who promptly responded with a three point play and scored 18 of the team's final 20 points to propel San Diego Christian to the victory.


Daniel finished the night with 28 points on 11-16 shooting, including 22 second half points. In addition, Daniel also grabbed 7 rebounds. Chardonnay Shula also reached double figures, collecting 12 points. Heather Serven added 9 points.


Nichole Jones led the Red Hawks with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Tiffany Aaserude added 13 points.


The Lady Hawks shot 48.1% from the field (25-52) while limiting Simpson to 18-58 shooting.


San Diego Christian now has nearly a week off before traveling to #3 Vanguard on Tuesday, January 8. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
