COSTA MESA, Calif. – Vanguard (30-20, 10-10 GSAC) completed its 2014 Golden State Athletic Conference season with a split, as it run-ruled Arizona Christian (9-29, 2-18 GSAC)10-2 (5 innings) in the opener but fell 4-1 to the Firestorm in the nightcap.

The Pride has one regular season nonconference doubleheader remaining. The Blue and Gold will host former rival Azusa Pacific on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

Brittany Colenzo (SR/Downey, CA) paced the Lions in game one with a 2-for-2 effort. Her first knock of the day was a two RBI triple to right center which put Vanguard out front 2-0 in the second inning of the opener. Colenzo also scored two runs in the contest.

Breanne Gomez (JR/Santa Ana, CA) notched an RBI triple in her own perfect 2-for-2 performance for the Lions. Both of Gomez' knocks in game one were for extra bases as she also hit a double on the day.

Leading the way with three RBIs was Taylor Wilson (FR/Modesto, CA), while Brittney Boggs (JR/Lakewood, CA) posted two by way of a homerun to left center in Vanguard's five-run fourth inning.

The win went to Rachel Stalford (JR/San Diego, CA), who gave up two hits in four innings of work. She struck out four Firestorm batters, bringing her season total to 99 K's. Stalford has 15 victories on the year for Vanguard.

In the nightcap, the Lions struggled to register runs and dropped the game 4-1. Shelby Kuryllo (JR/Corona, CA) led Vanguard with two knocks, one of which was a double.

Jo Karla Jimenez (FR/Brawley, CA) tallied the Blue and Gold's lone RBI in the competition, a single to center field in the final frame of the doubleheader.

Taylor Doyle (SO/Oceanside, Calif.) suffered the loss on the mound. She gave up seven hits, four runs (three earned, walked four and struck out four in the outing.

No. 4 seed Vanguard will face No. 5 seed Hope International in the GSAC Softball Tournament's first round on April 24th at 8:30 am. The tournament will be held at No. 1 seed Concordia's field.
