Concordia looked to close out the season with Biola on Saturday, April 12 with a doubleheader. The Eagles of Concordia felled Biola 5-2 the previous day to take a 3-1 series lead.

Andrew Brooks (SR/Lone Pine, CA) took the mound for Concordia in game one and worked three and two thirds innings. Brooks fanned two, walked two, and gave up five total runs, four earned, on eight hits. Alex Tukey (SR/Irvine, CA) entered in long relief and performed well, going five and a third with three K's. Tukey blanked Biola across the final five and a third, allowing no runs on three hits. Concordia scored first as Robert Shiroky (JR/Henderson, NV) got on with a walk in the second. A groundout move Shiroky to second, and Spencer Nielsen (FR/Lakeside, CA) singled to shortstop to put Shiroky on third. Daniel Shine (JR/Riverside, CA) sent a sacrifice fly to deep right to score Shiroky. Biola rallied back with a four-run third inning and added an insurance run in the fourth. Concordia tried to answer in the seventh inning as Trever Benjamin (SR/Chandler, AZ) got aboard after taking a pitch on the leg and moved to second with a single to right from Ryan Goodman (JR/Upland, CA). Benjamin took third on a passed ball and came across home with an RBI single to center field from Nolan Clark (SR/Ladera Ranch, CA) to make it 5-2, but the Eagles' rally ended there and Concordia dropped the first game of the doubleheader.

 

Dillon Moran (FR/San Clemente, CA) took the mound for Concordia in the second game and worked four and a third innings, giving up three runs on five hits, all of them earned. Moran fanned three and walked three in his no-decision appearance. Logan Truex (JR/Irvine, CA) came in as the relief pitcher and worked the final two and two thirds, fanning three and walking one without a hit to earn his third win of the season. Biola scored first with one in the third inning, but Concordia plated three in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Goodman singled to center in the third before scoring on a double to right center from Clark. Justin Hodges (SR/Santa Ana, CA) pinch-ran for Clark at second and came home on a single through the right side hit by Esser. Esser stole second and moved to third as the catcher overthrew the pickoff attempt at second for an error. Shiroky singled to left center to score Esser unearned, making it 3-1 Concordia. Biola scored two in the fifth to tie at 3-3, but Concordia plated four in the sixth for the win. Atlee Schwab (JR/Long Beach, CA) singled through the left side and was replaced at first by Ryan Land (FR/Eugene, OR). Land stole second and came home as Nielsen blasted a double to left. Goodman singled to first base and beat the throw, while Nielsen went to third on the single and came home on the throw to first. Clark singled up the middle to put Goodman on third, and Hodges came in to run for Clark. A bunt squeeze single by Esser scored Goodman and moved Hodges to second, and Shiroky singled through the left side to score Hodges for the final score of 7-3.

 

Concordia improves to 31-14 on the season and is now 18-12 in GSAC play. Biola falls to 12-34 on the season and is 8-22 in GSAC competitions. The Concordia Eagles will host San Diego Christian as the home team for a three-game series beginning Wednesday, April 23 at 3:00 pm. The Eagles will celebrate Senior Day on Thursday, April 17 at 12:00 pm.
