EL CAJON, Calif. – The San Diego Christian women's basketball team got its first GSAC win Tuesday night as they beat Arizona Christian 58-50.
The Lady Hawks led from start to finish and improve their record to 10-8 and 1-4 in GSAC play. The Lady Firestorm fell to 5-14 and 0-5 in league.
Gabrielle Concepcion led the Lady Hawks with 12 points and two assists. Briana Martinez claimed a double-double off the bench scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Alex Davison scored seven points and had a game-high 13 rebounds.
San Diego Christian led in almost every statistical category. The Lady Hawks collected 52 rebounds compared to Arizona Christian's 34. Arizona Christian shot better from the field shooting 34.4 percent while San Diego Christian's was just lower at 31.6 percent.
Martinez stretched San Diego Christian's biggest lead of the half of 13 with two free throws at the 6:27 mark remaining in the half. Both teams would trade baskets the rest of the half as the Lady Hawks held a 33-24 lead at the break.
After four consecutive points to start the second half to get the lead within five, the Lady Hawks went on a 19-11 run to get the lead back to 13 points. Sasika Giesselbach converted a free throw to give San Diego Christian its biggest lead of the game at 14 with 2:06 remaining.
Prayer Branham and Stephanie Brimhall both tallied 12 points for Arizona Christian in the defeat.
The Lady Hawks will host No. 9 ranked The Master's College this Saturday tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
