LA MIRADA, Calif. - Bethesda challenged No. 1 Vanguard to its tightest competition of the season on Saturday night. Despite the score (71-58) being closer than usual, the result was no different as the Lions notched win number 11 to maintain a perfect 2013-14 slate.

The Blue and Gold shot just 28.6 percent (22-77) in the contest, but saw production from all around as five players recorded double-digit scoring numbers and two Lions, juniors Ashleigh Anderson (Oregon City, Ore.) and Melissa Norman (Elk Grove, Calif.), tallied double-doubles.

Anderson, a 5-8 guard for the Pride, paced the Lions with team-highs in points (14) and rebounds (11) en route to her first dub-dub of the year. She also dished 3 assists and compiled a game-best 4 steals.

Norman, who registered a double-double against the Flames on November 9th, managed the feat once again, this time with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Jordie Smith (Wilton, Calif.), senior Nicole Ballestero (Orange, Calif.) and senior Taylor Belmont (Oregon City, Ore.) posted 14, 13 and 11 points, respectively, to complete VU's double-digit scoring. Belmont and Ballestero combined for 10 of the Lions' 15 assists on the night.

Vanguard shot 20-for-22 from the charity stripe in the game.

Bethesda's Emilie Munnandibu led all players with 16 points.

The Lions take 10 days off from competition before opening Golden State Athletic Conference play on January 14th (5:30 pm) at San Diego Christian (RV).
