Fullerton, CA - For the second time in as many meetings, Hope International split with No. 2 Cal State San Marcos winning the first game 4-2 before falling 14-0 in the second game.  In the first game, Junior Liz Gonzalez basically beat the Cougars by herself as she homered twice and earned the win in the circle.

Gonzalez did some fancy pitching in the first as two errors and a walk loaded the bases before a groundout ended the inning.

She faced the bases loaded twice more but escaped only giving up a single run in each inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, Senior Janelle Medor singled down the left field line to begin the inning.  Gonzalez stepped in and drilled the first pitch she saw to dead center for a two run shot and a 2-1 Hope International edge.  The next batter, Junior Kristin Peterson, walked which followed by a single from Junior Adi Lopez.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch.  Junior Lauren Ackerson drove home Peterson with a double (both runners had to hold as the ball was nearly caught on a diving attempt in left center).

The next four batters were retired before Gonzalez climbed in again and connected for her second home run in as many at bats to left field.  The home runs by Gonzalez were her second and third of the season.

With the win, Gonzalez improved to 15-9 on the year.

In the second game, the Cougars opened the hitting flood gates and the Royals could not find their rhythm defensively which equated to a very lopsided victory for the Cougars.

Medor took the loss and fell to 3-5 for the season.

On Tuesday, the Royals will host their final home double header of the season when Biola comes calling.  The twin bill is set for a 2:00 pm start at Craig Park.
