EL CAJON, Calif.—The San Diego Christian College baseball team won their sixth straight game on Saturday, scoring a combined 24 runs and pounding 31 hits in a double header sweep of Arizona Christian University. The Hawks took game one 9-3 and game two 15-3 after winning the initial game of the series 11-2 on Friday

Over the three-game series, San Diego Christian's offense totaled 35 runs and 46 hits against a talented Arizona Christian squad that entered the series third in the GSAC and received votes in the most recent NAIA top 25 poll.

 

The win sends the Hawks to 27-13 overall and 14-13 in the GSAC. The Firestorm fall to 20-17 overall and a 13-17 in conference play.

 

In game one, San Diego Christian struck first, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Peter Hoyt led the inning off with a double to left field on a ball that was lost in the sun. After a pair of outs, Christian Johnson singled home Hoyt. Alex Mann then singled to move Johnson into scoring position, and Jeff Lusardi drove in Johnson with a single to end the scoring.

 

The Hawks added three more runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth to build a 9-0 lead heading into the seventh inning.

 

Arizona Christian would finally strike against San Diego Christian starter Nick Greene, getting a homerun from Orinn Sears in the seventh, and a pair of runs on a Sears' single in the eighth.  San Diego Christian relievers Brock Heerdt and Jeremy Blare closed out the game for the Hawks.

 

Greene (6-2) tossed 7.2 innings, scattering five hits and allowing three runs. Greene also struck out four and walked one. Mike Lachapelle (4-5) suffered the loss for the Firestorm. Lachapelle went 5.2 innings, allowing 13 hits and eight runs (six earned), while striking out five. Jordan Bryson completed the game for Arizona Christian, throwing 3.1 innings, limiting the Hawks to one run on three hits and collecting two punchouts.

 

Hoyt, Lusardi, and Mann led San Diego Christian in game one, collecting three hits each. Chad Erickson, Gilbert Viera, and Christian had a pair of hits. Hoyt drove in two runs and Johnson scored two runs.

 

In game two, San Diego Christian exploded for 11 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the first. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Taylor Eichhorst, his seventh homerun of the season, to finish the Hawks' scoring in the bottom of the first.

 

Arizona Christian came right back with two runs in the top of the second inning, with RBIs from Albert Alvarez and Chris Russell.

 

The Hawks continued to hit, adding two runs in both the second and fifth innings. Arizona Christian added a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout from Jake Storrer, but San Diego Christian reliever Gabriel Hemmer closed the game out for San Diego Christian.

 

Jeff Gogue (2-0) collected his second win in as many starts. The southpaw threw 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out two. Hemmer closed the game out with 2.0 innings, giving up one run on a pair of hits.

 

Stephen Thompson (5-5) took the loss for the Firestorm.

 

Hoyt led the Hawks going 3-4 with four RBIs and a homerun. Garrison McLagan, Cade Gotta, Lusardi, Erickson, and Eichhorst each collected two hits in the game two victory.
