Long Beach, Calif.—The San Diego Christian College men's soccer team jumped in front within minutes of the game's beginning, but the Hawks were unable to overcome a barrage of second half goals, falling 6-1 in the season opener at Marymount College.
The Hawks fall to 0-1-0 while the Mariners move to 1-0-0.
SDCC grabbed a 1-0 lead within three minutes of the opening kick. The Hawks' Eduardo Medina delivered a long pass to Jordan Abad who was able to elude a defender and drill the ball past the goalkeeper for the early lead.
MC responded with goals in the 19th minute and 39th minute to capture the lead before halftime.
The Mariners continued the scoring after the intermission, with four second half goals. The Mariners' Scott Smith scored three goals and had two assists on the afternoon.
SDCC goalkeeper Alex Cozzi collected six saves as the Mariners outshot the Hawks 14-7.
SDCC continues play with a Northern California road trip over Labor Day weekend. The Lady Hawks play Simpson College on Friday and William Jessup University on Saturday. Both games are on the WJU campus.
