PLAYERS OF THE WEEK BRANDON WARNER ~ Biola University Senior ~ 6-8 ~ Forward ~ San Diego, California Senior Brandon Warner had 48 points and 47 rebounds to average a double-double (12 ppg and 11.8 rpg) as Biola won 3 of 4 games last week. In the 4 games, he was 19-for-28 (.680) from the field and 10-for-18 (.560) at the line, and he recorded 7 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Warner was named to all-tournament for his 3-game performance at the Cactus Jam in Phoenix, Arizona. In the win against Elmira NY he had 13 points, and in the victory over Linfield OR, he had 13 rebounds and 3 assists. In the OT loss to Ramapo NJ, Warner had 13 points and 20 rebounds. Back in Biola's gym, he recorded another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Bethany. HORACE WORMELY ~ Vanguard University Senior ~ 5-6 ~ Guard ~ Altadena, California Senior Horace Wormely averaged 25 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.7 rebounds as Vanguard won 2 of 3 conference games last week. For the week, Wormely was 26-for-44 (.590) from the field, including 8-for-16 (.500) from behind the arc, and 15-for-21 (.710) at the line. He pumped in a career-high 28 points, including the game-winning free throws in the final second in the victory over Concordia. He had 26 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals in the loss at Point Loma Nazarene. Wormely then had 21 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds as Vanguard defeated The Master's. ROWAN GRAY ~ San Diego Christian College Junior ~ 6-8 ~ Forward ~ Cairns, Australia Junior Rowan Gray registered 2 double-doubles and averaged 20.5 points and 14 rebounds per game last week as San Diego Christian won both of its conference games to remain undefeated in 9 games at home this season. For the week, he was 14-for 21 (.667) from the field and 13-for-20 (.650) at the line, and recorded 5 assists and 3 steals. In the win over Hope International, he had 22 points and 14 rebounds. In the victory over No. 14 Biola, Gray had 19 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Gray currently has 7 double-doubles on the season. MATT BENSON ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Junior ~ 6-5 ~ Forward ~ Chico, California Junior Matt Benson averaged 21 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2 steals as Point Loma Nazarene won all 3 of its GSAC games last week. For the week, he was 24-for-47 (.510) from the field, including 11-for-21 (.520) from 3-point range, and 4-for-5 (.800) at the free throw line. In the win against Hope International, he had a near double-double with 20 points and 9 rebounds. In the victory at No. 22-ranked Biola, he had 31 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals while shooting 11-for-15 (.733) from the field, including 5-for-7 (.714) from the arc. Benson recorded his third double-double of the year at Westmont, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, as well as 3 assists and 2 steals. LEVI SEEKINS ~ Vanguard University Senior ~ 6-6 ~ Forward ~ Elmer City, WashingtonSenior Levi Seekins averaged 22.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as Vanguard upset 2 ranked teams last week. Seekins made all his points from the field shooting 19-for-35 (.543), including 7-for-16 (.438) from the 3-point arc. In the win at No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific he tied his career high with 28 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Seekins scored the game-tying basket at the buzzer at the end of regulation. He then went on to score 6 of his team's 9 points, all from 3-pointers, in the overtime period, including the game winner with 1:21 remaining. Seekins also led the Lions in scoring with 17 points in the victory over No. 12 San Diego Christian. He is now Vanguard's leading scorer for the season with a 16.3 point average. Vanguard has a 4-game winning streak and has won 6 of its last 7 games. Seekins was named the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week. DEMARIO BUTLER ~ Azusa Pacific University Junior ~ 6-5 ~ Guard ~ Las Vegas, Nevada Junior Demario Butler recorded averages of 17.5 points, 7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4 steals as No. 6-ranked Azusa Pacific won both its conference games last week and remained in first place in the GSAC. For the week, he was 15-for-26 (.580) from the field, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range, and 3-for-6 at the line. In Azusa Pacific's largest margin of victory ever over No. 20 Westmont, Butler had 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting, with 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. In the win against The Master's, he had 21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists and 1 block. With 21 seconds remaining, Butler scored the game-winning basket on an alley-oop off an inbounds pass. ROWAN GRAY ~ San Diego Christian College Junior ~ 6-8 ~ Forward ~ Cairns, Australia Junior Rowan Gray averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2 assists as San Diego Christian won both its games last week and regained sole possession of second place in the GSAC. For the week, he shot 16-for-23 (.700) from the field and 9-for-18 (.500) at the line. In the win at California Baptist, Gray had 18 points and 5 rebounds. In the victory over Westmont, he recorded his twelfth double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds. BRANDON WARNER ~ Biola University Senior ~ 6-8 ~ Forward ~ San Diego, California Senior Brandon Warner averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists as Biola won all 3 of its conference games last week. For the week, Warner shot 19-for-32 (.590) from the field and 13-for-15 (.870) at the line. In the win at Fresno Pacific, he recorded his ninth double-double this year with 16 points and 11 rebounds as well as 2 blocked shots. In the victory over No. 16 San Diego Christian, Warner had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. In the win against Westmont, he had 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Biola currently has a 4-game winning streak. SPENCER FOSTER ~ Biola University Junior ~ 6-5 ~ Forward ~ Glendora, California Junior Spencer Foster averaged 22 points and 8 rebounds as Biola split its GSAC games on the road last week. For the week, he shot 18-for-34 (.529) from the field, including 2-for-4 (.500) from the 3-point arc, and 6-for-7 (.857) at the line. In the loss at Point Loma Nazarene, he had a near double-double with 21 points and 9 rebounds. In the overtime win at Concordia, Foster had 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. |
